Since 1960s, the famous calligraphers Mr. Liu Zidu and Mr. Chen Zeqin had been teaching at Xi'an Technological University, which had formed very strong atmosphere of calligraphy education. Under the personal leadership of these two professors, XATU began to establish a calligraphy teaching team in 1988, insisting on public calligraphy teaching and practice activities, and successfully started a bachelor's degree in calligraphy in 2003, becoming the first University with calligraphy profession in the Northwest of China. At present, College of Chinese Calligraphy of XATU recruits undergraduate and postgraduate students, and also co-cultivates PhD students with Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. College of Chinese Calligraphy has 15 full-time and part-time teachers, including 4 professors, 5 associate professors, 4 lecturers and 2 assistant lecturers.

After continuous construction and development, College of Chinese Calligraphy of XATU has achieved gratifying results in discipline construction, talent cultivation, team construction, scientific research, etc. such as: won the Shaanxi Provincial Teaching Master Award in 2007 and the Shaanxi Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Award outstanding achievements the third prize in 2008; Won the Chinese Calligraphy Lanting Award for Education in 2009, won the second prize for outstanding teaching achievements in Shaanxi Province in 2011; won the Chinese Calligraphy Lanting Award for Educational collective award in 2012; won the first prize for outstanding teaching achievements in Shaanxi Province in 2013; won the first prize of outstanding achievements in humanities and social science in universities of Shaanxi Province in 2015; won the second prize of outstanding achievements in philosophy and social science in Shaanxi Province in 2016; won the first prize of outstanding achievements in humanities and social science in universities of Shaanxi Province in 2017. Our teachers have entered the exhibitions and won the awards for more than 30 times in the Lanting Awards, National Exhibitions and various individual exhibitions sponsored by the Chinese Calligraphy Association. They have also entered the exhibitions and won the awards for more than 10 times in various Calligraphy Study Seminars sponsored by the Chinese Calligraphy Association. They undertook 3 projects of the National Social Science Fund, the Social Science Fund of the Ministry of Education, and the China Federation of Literary and Art Development Fund, and 10 items of provincial and other scientific research projects.

At present, Calligraphy Profession in College of Chinese Calligraphy has developed into a first-class cultivated specialty in Shaanxi Province, an Innovative Experimental Zone for the cultivation mode of calligraphy talents in Shaanxi Province, a teaching team for calligraphy specialty in Shaanxi Province, Boutique Resource Sharing Course for “Calligraphy” in Shaanxi Province, and a calligraphy creation base in Shaanxi Province.

For many years, the students of calligraphy specialty have continually won the first prize in the 4 National College Students' Calligraphy Exhibitions sponsored by the Ministry of Education; they have entered the exhibitions and won the awards for more than 68 times in the Chinese Calligraphy Lanting Award, the National Calligraphy and Seal Exhibition, regular script exhibition, cursive exhibition, new person exhibition, post exhibition, women's calligraphy exhibition and college student calligraphy exhibition sponsored by the Chinese Calligraphy Association. There are 52 graduated students have joined the Chinese Calligraphers Association, and many graduates have won numerous awards in the National Calligraphy Exhibition and also become the leaders of local calligraphy creation, and has been rated as a top talent, a cultural star, a model calligrapher and a national exhibition elite by the local governments or their employers.

In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the Documents of the State Council, innovate the cooperative education mechanism and expand the cross-border educational cooperation space for countries along the "One Belt and One Road", Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education and Xi'an Technological University signed an agreement in November 2017 to found and jointly establish the College of Chinese Calligraphy. It has been decided that, College of Chinese Calligraphy will not only recruit undergraduate and postgraduate students on calligraphy profession, but also build a platform for the education of students outside China, recruit foreign students especially from countries along the "One Belt and One Road".
